W. H. Marquardt Precepting/Mentorship Award
The William H. Marquardt Precepting/Mentorship Award aims to recognize PAs serving in precepting, adjunct faculty, and/or mentorship roles.
Nominations for this award may be submitted by a third party (e.g., a colleague, supervisor, or peer familiar with the nominee’s qualifications and contributions) or as a self-nomination.
Four awards in the amount of $2,500 will be distributed.

Nominations for this award may be submitted by a third party (e.g., a colleague, supervisor, or peer familiar with the nominee’s qualifications and contributions) or as a self-nomination.
The applicant/nominee must:
- Be a PA and Fellow or retired member in good standing of AAPA
- Currently serve in a precepting, adjunct faculty, and/or mentorship role
- Have at least three years of experience in a precepting/mentoring role and demonstrate strong commitment to precepting and/or mentorship, as demonstrated by professional history/track record
The nomination form will include the following sections/required components, to be completed by the applicant (if self-nomination) or nominator (if third-party nomination):
- General information about the applicant/nominee
- Short answer questions:
- Describe the nominee’s precepting and/or mentorship activities at minimum over the last 3 years.
- Reflect on the nominee’s experience as a preceptor or mentor. How have they contributed to the professional growth of their students/mentees?
- Precepting/mentorship often involves inspiring others to achieve their goals. Share an example of how the nominee has fostered a supportive and inclusive environment for their mentees.
- Mentorship extends beyond teaching skills – it shapes future leaders. How has the nominee’s work as a preceptor or mentor contributed to advancing the PA profession?
- Required documents/uploads:
- Nominee’s CV
- Two letters of recommendation (at least one must be a professional reference who can speak to the nominee’s work)
The 2026 William H. Marquardt Precepting/Mentorship Award cycle will open July 13 and close August 10.
Award amount: $2,500 (4 awards available)
