W. H. Marquardt Community Health Access Award
The William H. Marquardt Community Health Access Award (formerly “Fellowship”) aims to recognize PAs dedicated to promoting accessible primary and preventative healthcare amongst underserved populations.
Nominations for this award may be submitted by a third party (e.g., a colleague, supervisor, or peer familiar with the nominee’s qualifications and contributions) or as a self-nomination.
Four awards in the amount of $2,500 will be distributed.

Nominations for this award may be submitted by a third party (e.g., a colleague, supervisor, or peer familiar with the nominee’s qualifications and contributions) or as a self-nomination.
The applicant/nominee must:
- Be a PA and Fellow or retired member in good standing of AAPA
- Have an employment or volunteer history reflecting a strong focus in primary care and/or preventative medicine
- Demonstrate history of work with underserved populations
The nomination form will include the following sections/required components, to be completed by the applicant (if self-nomination) or nominator (if third-party nomination):
- General information about the nominee
- Short answer questions:
- Describe the nominee’s volunteer and/or community activities at minimum over the last 3 years.
- List the nominee’s employment experience in primary care (including name of workplace, role/title, specialty, and years worked).
- Describe the nominee’s dedication to improving access to primary and preventative care for underserved populations. Please include specific details about the program or initiative the nominee led or contributed to, including population served, program design, timeline, and any outcomes achieved.
- Describe the potential impact receiving this award could have on the nominee’s efforts to improve primary care access.
- Required documents/uploads:
- Nominee’s CV
- Two letters of recommendation (at least one must be a professional reference who can speak to the nominee’s work)
The 2025 William H. Marquardt Community Health Access Award cycle will open July 14.
Award amount: $2,500 (4 awards available)

Bill served as president of AAPA from 1992-1993 and also actively served the PA Foundation in various roles, including as chair of the scholarship committee.
