“I am proud of my profession as a PA. The lives that we can influence and the positive impact that we have on our patients is so vitally important in each and every life that we are blessed to be touched by. I have always said that as much as I can teach a patient, they have taught me that much and more. My personal contribution is a constant reminder of giving back to my profession in a positive way that will impact many patient lives today and for tomorrow.”

Susan has been a clinically practicing PA for over 25 years. She practiced in family medicine for 10 years in rural Michigan prior to joining Grand Valley State University as an assistant professor and, while teaching, also practiced part-time in the emergency department and moonlighted in the urgent care. She then moved to Arizona and taught at Midwestern University in Glendale, AZ, while continuing to practice one day a week in urgent care and family medicine. For the past 11 years she has practiced in allergy, asthma, and immunology, and has established herself as a national leader and educator in this specialty field. She has been a national speaker at PA and NP CME (continuing medical education) conferences for 10 years and has published in peer-reviewed PA and NP journals on topics related to allergy, asthma, and immunology. She is the immediate past president for the Association of PAs in Allergy, Asthma & Immunology and has also held positions on their board as secretary and president-elect. She served as AAPA’s medical liaison to the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology. She has also served on AAPA’s Commission on Continuing Medical Education and Professional Development.
